Operations Recommence at Scotland's Busiest Airport In the Wake of Significant Air Traffic Control Outage

A technical fault at the airport's ATC meant all flights could arrive or depart from the facility.

Passenger services have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped because of an systems problem that arose around 08:30.

Several flyers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Flights Resume with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

Nonetheless, ongoing issues are expected to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with many others experiencing delays.

Officials had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to contact their airlines for the current status on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an systems failure with its ATC service provider.

Flyers are still being urged to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the terminal as knock-on effects are worked through.
