Keely Hodgkinson Concludes Season with Winning Performance at Athlos Meet in NYC
The athlete recorded her fastest time of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.
The Olympic champion concluded her 800m season with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.
{The current Olympic gold medallist, who earned bronze at the World Championships last month, excelled in an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a season impacted by a hamstring injury.
Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) claimed third.
"I've barely raced this year so it was probably easier for me to compete and want to give it something," said Hodgkinson.
"The atmosphere out there is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."
The women-only meet filled the stadium in its second year, introducing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is married to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to award the winners with their tiaras.
Previous champions received $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.
The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the sprint double.
