Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player the Athlete

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.

The team did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Posted on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
